ADDITIONAL TIPS: •If the slider is still in place and it's just missing the zipper pull, then an easy fix is to feed a paper clip through the hole in the slider and use the paper clip as a new zipper pull. •If the top stop or bottom stop come off, just make 8-10 stitches where either of the stops were located to make replacement stops. Using thicker thread works better. •To make the zipper slide much easier, unzip the zipper and rub some beeswax or a candlestick along all the zipper teeth to lubricate them. In a pinch, you can also use some lotion or vaseline and apply it with a q-tip. •If the fabric where the teeth belong have some loose threads or have started pilling, then grab a lighter and QUICKLY move the flame under the loose threads in 1 or 2 FAST passes which should get rid of the loose threads/pilling and also seal it to help prevent more pilling. •If your zipper splits (separates) in the middle of the zipper, then you can use some needle-nose pliers to slightly pinch down both sides of the zipper slider to make it grip the teeth better. •If the insertion pin comes off and you don't have any copper piping (like he showed in the video), you can cut a small section of a drinking straw, cut a slit down one side, hook it on like he did with the copper, and then sew the straw in place as the new insertion pin. For a perfect fit, you can GENTLY apply a bit of heat from a heat gun or lighter to the plastic straw which will cause it to shrink a bit and soften any sharp edges. And for those interested, the item he fixed in the first half of the video is called the "insertion pin". The 3 metal prongs he replaced in the second half of the video are called zipper "teeth". The zipper "pull" (or "pull tab") is the metal tab you pull to zip/unzip the zipper. The "slider" is what the zipper pull is attached to which helps interlock the zipper teeth. The thicker metal tabs at the top & bottom of the zipper are to prevent the zipper pull & slider from fully coming off the zipper. They are called "top stop" and "bottom stop".
