Please don't follow stuff like this and mess with anything that plugs into mains if you don't know what your doing, but also electronics like LED's that run on lower voltages you could still cause a short wich can lead to issues, and im pretty sure putting foil or just solder in place of an LED isn't the best idea since that doesn't draw anything and has a different resistance. As for the usb part of this, yeah that seems fairly safe although you might still get shocked from the caps (maybe) and please don't plug that into a pc especially if there's a short somewhere. Just do your research if you wanna get into electronics and don't go messing with with mains unless you know what your doing.

Since the LEDs are in series, the current will be the same. On the other hand replacing the diode with a conductor reduces resistance, which would allow for more current. Interesting.

I did a similar thing on an electric welder. It had a circle of diodes with one burned out, these were very difficult to get replacements for do I just jumpered the faulty one and the welder runs on the other eight. It has worked fine for years even though each of the other diodes handles a tiny fraction more load.

We used to do this with old tvs. The ones with the big boxes behind the screen. If the TV died, first thing was to find the fuse inside. You could replace the fuse, smart idea... but if your really smart, you just wrap foil around the dead fuse and bridge the gap. If my memory serves me right, eventually the foil burns out and stops working. Yay
Shelley

But do 50 other things before “just putting aluminum foil on lightbulb”, like taking a wire out and stripping it and use a C-clamp then turn around 3 times and do a jumping Jack then plug it in and in a few hours your house will burn down.

Very expensive led car headlights can be repaired the same way. Especially if you have something like a kia where the entire plastic assembly must be replaced. And for those nervous Nellie's out there. A fire from this type of hack is virtually impossible as the fractionally increased load on the LED is internal to the bulb. Thus worst case another diode burns out early and the entire bulb stops functioning.

The test wire shows the LED that has failed. The wire is conducting the 1.5 volts across the burnt out LED, by the lighting up the working LEDS. And the foil tape is replacing the failed LED. Soldering is best and safest. Plus the lose of one LED gives an extra 1.5 volts to the other LEDS, making the lamp brighter.

1. Other LEDs will start failing because you bypassed failed one(s). 2. There is, however a right and a wrong way to do it.

No!! Don't don't do this. Basically one of the LEDs has failed (probably from getting too hot or being overdriven). Firstly, using a piece of cable may work but is likely unsafe as often these are driven at full mains voltage (if you touch the connection or short it, you could get a shock). Next, if you HAVE determined a faulty led and taken it out of circuit, do it with solder and a link. Taping a piece of aluminium foil over is likely to cause arcing if it is being run at mains voltage as the tape heats up and doesn't make a good connection. Finally, if they are sharing the current, by taking one out of circuit, you end up overruling the remaining ones which will then fail quickly. If you are lucky, you won't cause a fire or get a shock.

@tastemysaucer maybe they're broke because they get their life advice and skills from bottom of the barrel how-to videos on YT like this one. Or maybe you think this guy is a secret millionaire, and he just wants to share the wealth....

I bought a bunch of LED light bulbs at the Dollar Tree a few years ago and all the original ones are still working great 3-4 years later. Basically I have enough LED light bulbs to last me the rest of my life.

@Lexi Bardo Porter fun perhaps? Kill time? Save money? You know some folks actually struggle to buy light bulbs, it's reality for some

I can't why you would want to do this seeing as LED lamps are so cheap and last for 1000+ hours. I also thought they had extra electronics to cope with 230V AC?

This only means that the leds they're all connected in series from factory 😂

"I hope you enjoy this video of How to DISASSEMBLE and REPAIR an LED lamp WITHOUT A SOLDERING IRON DIY LED lamp repair" This is your description of your video in quotations as well. This video is informative but very misleading to the average person who thinks they won't need anything more then a led bulb and aluminum foil.

@Karen My friend is also a single lady but guess what? after seeding and tithing nothing in her home goes wrong now. Stuff has even mysteriously fixed itself. Ive noticed the same in my home too. Consider that one of the best unknown tips for any home (it's indirectly mentioned in the Bible too). Since most people will never believe this, they will likely ignore it but I was pretty shocked and amazed when I discovered this.

I have bought tons of LED bulbs, but never seen one with a bayonet base. This must be in Europe. Wonder if this would work with screw type LEDs in US of A???

@Fred Schepers Right. A perfect example is we don't use the metric system.

Most LED's, especially for wall or ceiling mount is bayonet based. It's because they need less space. Most LED's will have "GU" jGeneral Use) plus a (distance between the pins) number as marker, where the Bayonet is "BA" and the Edison screw cap is "E". Different countries different caps. The majority of the world runs 230V+, where the US runs on 110V. Just different standards. The US is a bit behind with the world .... In many occasions 😉
